A historic, annual star-studded charity basketball game to benefit abandoned youth in foster care
Washington, D.C. (January 29, 2014) – This weekend all eyes from the football and entertainment worlds will be centered on the Big Apple. On Saturday, February 1st at 3pm, Gridiron Celebrity Hoops XVI bounces into the Concrete Jungle attracting a host of celebrities and professional athletes to play ball in the city that’s already in a NFL state of mind. The star-powered event will open its doors to the public at 2:30 p.m. and tip-off at 3:00 p.m. at City College of New York Nat Holman Gymnasium in the Marshak Science Building on 160 Convent Avenue in the New York.
The superstars participating as coaches, players, DJ, hosts or emcees, collectively have over 4 million followers on Instagram, and over 8 million followers on Twitter. Celebrities scheduled to participate include, Stevie J (Music Producer, VH1’s Love & Hip Hop Atlanta), Jay Ellis (BET’s The Game), Po Johnson (VH1’s La La’s Full Court Life), Joe Budden (Recording Artist and Love & Hip Hop New York), DJ Clue (New York’s Power 105.1), Free (formerly of 105.1), Dez Bryant (Dallas Cowboys), Desean Jackson (Philadelphia Eagles), Quinton Coples (New York Jets), TO (former NFL player), Wade Smith (Houston Texans), Deon Grant (Ret. New York Giants’ Player, Super Bowl XLVI Champions), Grammy Nominated artist, Tank, music legend Bun B, and the beautiful Supermodel Jessica Dykstra. Not to be outdone street-ball handlers Patrick Robinson aka Pat the Roc, Randy Gill aka White Chocolate, Myron Howe aka Airborne, Bobby Maze, aka No Fabrication, Porter Mayberry aka What’s Gravity?, and street-baller turned actor Luis da Silva, Jr., aka Trikz, will take center court and exhibit great break-away skills and an electric above-the-rim slam dunk contest.
This year the teams are super competitive. Fans will be cheering current NFL Dallas Cowboy Dex Bryant of Team X vs former Dallas Cowboy Terrell T.O owners of Team T.O. As this sports competition enters its 16th year of production, it remains one of the most anticipated events held annually the day before the Big Game. Gridiron Celebrity Hoops is the first and only charity celebrity basketball game to have ever become officially sanctioned by the National Football League. Now, separately and independently produced by Jam Sports Productions, the event continues to showcase celebrities “Playing with a Purpose” – to raise awareness, and share information on adopting and protecting children and teens placed in the foster care system who have suffered from abuse, neglect, homelessness, violence, instability, and more. “I am extremely excited that Gridiron Celebrity Hoops has reached its 16th year,” said Jordan, CEO and President of Jam Sports Productions and Founder of non-profit organization Juli’s Kids Motivated to Succeed. “ My sponsors, honorary host committee, strategic partners and their humanitarian zeal and fortitude are the reason we are able to be successful this special year in New York.”

The event has a purpose-driven “extra point” and benefits children who have suffered from devastation, isolation, and violence. Juli’s Kids Motivated to Succeed (Juli’s Kids) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to enrich the lives of today’s abused, abandoned, homeless and neglected children temporarily connected with foster care parents or in group homes while waiting to be adopted into “forever families”. This year Juli’s Kids has chosen to work with the New York State Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) to benefit agencies for youth in its multi-city programs and group homes. Youths in New York City’s five boroughs will receive special one-on-one time with celebrity participants for a private, invite-only, meet and greet from 1:30-2:30pm. Media Welcomed. The open to the public celebrity game starts at 3:00pm.
